Participation in the Rampenlichter Festival 2023 is possible in different forms:

  1. Regular applications from Munich, national and international productions as participants in the Rampenlichter Festival 2023
  2. Applications only from Munich based productions for the Stadtjugendamt/Jugendkulturwerk München production funding with participation in Rampenlichter 2023
  3. Applications from Munich, national and international groups as artists-in-residence.
Artists-in-residence develop a new piece during the festival period and perform it at the end of the Rampenlichter festival.

Many questions about the application process are being answered in our FAQs. If you have further questions, please contact Anna Wurzbacher via e-mail: a.wurzbacher@rampenlichter.com

1. OPEN CALL FOR REGULAR APPLICATIONS: Clear the stage for young art by and with children and young people between 6 – 27 years of age

Rampenlichter is looking for plays that are co-produced with children and young people and in whose development they are significantly involved, or for those that have been developed by young people or young adults on their own. The invited plays represent a current selection of productions that stand for special realisations, topics and realities of life of young people, for diversity and variety on stage and for the particular artistic aesthetics of productions with children and young people. In July 2023 the 13th edition of Rampenlichter showcases 14 days of diversity and variety of dance and theatre productions by children and young people.

Children and young people in the spotlight – new ideas and artistic vibes

Rampenlichter is a platform for young performing arts and presents up to 18 different productions from the fields of dance, theatre and dance theatre, which were created by or with children and young people between 6-27 years in a variety of contexts and constellations. Invited groups spend an inspiring week full of artistic exchange and mutual inspiration at Rampenlichter.

As young stage artists, you will set new impulses for dance and theatre with your ideas and productions and meet other dance and theatre enthusiasts at the festival in July 2023, with whom you will be able to exchange ideas about your artistic work, work processes, methods and techniques.

We are looking for a mixture of different project contexts, a wide variety of content-related topics and aesthetic realisations. We focus on pieces in whose creation young people are significantly involved in order to provide their views, identities, opinions, realities of life, topics and visions with a platform.
It is by way of adults relinquishing control to younger artists and thus creating space for co-production on an equal footing, that dance and theatre by children and young people in their various forms become truly visible. In a joint artistic process special pieces are developed that are shaped by the realities of life, identities, opinions, topics and forms of expression of the young artists.

Application: online via application form from 1 Nov 2022 till 10 Jan 2023

2. Call for applications of the Stadtjugendamt/Jugendkulturwerk (only for groups based in Munich): for production funding of a dance/theatre production with children/youth/young adults in the field of open/cultural child and youth work and cultural education.

(Please note that this application process is only applicable for Munich based groups)

The promotion of youth-cultural forms of expression is an important concern of the Stadtjugendamt (Munich Youth Welfare Office). For this reason, the Stadtjugendamt/Jugendkulturwerk invites applications for a dance/theater production in the field of child and youth work and cultural education in Munich.

Applications are possible with already finished pieces as well as with planned productions. It is also possible to apply with just a concept or an idea. An invitation to the dance and theater festival Rampenlichter 2023 is linked to the possibility of financial support for the production.

More information about the application process and its start will follow.
Please contact us if you need this information in English (since the funding is for Munich based groups only, we provide this information only to the groups who are eligible for the programme).

3. Application as artists-in-residence

Groups that want to apply with a developed idea, a nearly finished piece, a collage or concept do have the possibility to apply as Rampenlichter artists-in-residence, a new programme starting with the current festival edition.

As artists-in-residence, you will have 10 days at the festival to further develop, reflect and finalise your piece in an intensive rehearsal phase. At the end of the residency, the piece will be performed as part of the Rampenlichter programme.

As a group, you should be open to exploratory work and embark on a search for your own aesthetic ideas and for the artistic ideas of the group.

A concept for the work at the festival must be submitted with the application, describing exactly what the group will be working on in depth during the residency.

Application: online via application form from 1 Nov 2022 till 10 Jan 2023
